Mathematical constant ‘Pi’ day celebrated today

• The International Pi Day is celebrated each year on March 14 as it coincides with the mathematical constant Pi’s value (3.14159…).
• The symbol ‘π’ (Greek letter pi) was introduced by William Jones in 1706 to denote the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.
• However, it was popularised by Swiss Mathematician Leonhard Euler, who adopted it in 1737.

 WPI inflation spikes to 6.55% in Feb on costlier food, fuel

• Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to 39-month high of 6.55 per cent in February because of costlier food and fuel items.
• The Wholesale Price Index based inflation, reflecting the annual rate of price rise, in January was at 5.25 per cent.

Google, Reliance Jio developing affordable 4G smartphone 

• Google and Reliance Jio may be secretly working on an affordable smartphone that will work exclusively on the latter’s 4G network.
• The phone is expected to be launched before the end of this year, according to industry sources aware of the development.
• Google branding will help boost Reliance Jio’s plans to sell cheaper 4G handsets and reach a larger market.

IndusInd Bank to raise capital

• Private sector lender IndusInd Bank plans to raise Rs 1,000 cr through additional tier I bonds to bolster capital adequacy for business growth.
• Rating agency CRISIL has assigned “AA” Stable rating for proposed bond offering by private bank.
• CRISIL (Credit Rating Information Services of India Ltd) is a global analytical company providing ratings,research,and risk and policy advisory services.

Ford to export Ecosport to North America

• US automobile major Ford has decided to export the made-in-India Ecosport to North American markets.
• Ford produces Ecosport for more than 100 markets worldwide at six global locations. Since 2013, Ford has exported over 200,000 Ecosports made at its factory in Chennai.
• The majority of the company’s exports from India comprise the Ecosport and the Figo.
