SC orders floor test in Goa over govt formation on March 16

• The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered a floor test in Goa Assembly on March 16 after Congress challenged the appointment of Manohar Parrikar as Goa CM.
• While hearing Congress’ petition, the apex court asked the party, “Where are the numbers?” Chief Justice of India JS Khehar observed that numbers should determine single largest party in Goa.

UID to be used to store health data

• Health min. will introduce a Universal Identification Doc (UID) to store electronic health data of citizens.
• The min. technical committee will open bids to appoint a firm to run the program, expected to be implemented in a year.
• The move is aimed at creating a digital profile of each patient although it will not be made mandatory to provide an Aadhaar card to get treatment in govt hospitals.

New river-linking project

• Highly advanced LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) Survey will be taken up by Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited to prepare a Detailed Project Report for supplying Godavari water directly to Rayalaseema.
• After successful linkage between the Godavari and Krishna rivers through the Pattiseema project, now the Andhra government is embarking on linking the Godavari with the Penna.

New BrahMos missile testfired

• India successfully test-fired an extended range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Chandipur, Odisha coast.
• The BrahMos is a short-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.
• It is a joint venture between the Russia and India.
• The name BrahMos  from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.

Scotland seeks to exit U.K.

• Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will ask the Scottish Parliament for authority next week for a second referendum on Scottish independence.
• Criticising the “brick wall of intransigence” that her government had faced as it sought to find a deal that protected Scotland’s interests as Britain prepared to leave the EU, Ms. Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party, said that Scotland needed to be given the choice about the “kind of country we want to be”, between the autumn of 2018 and the spring of 2019.
